📢  Industry news

Danish Post discontinues mail delivery

PostNord, the state-owned postal and logistics company under Danish-Swedish ownership, will completely cease mail delivery in Denmark from 2026. The company will instead focus on parcel business. This transition will lead to the elimination of approximately 1,500 jobs and the removal of all public mailboxes in the country. The reason for this decision is the decline in mail volume: Since 2000, it has decreased by 90% due to the country's advancing digitalization. The final mail delivery by PostNord will take place on December 30, 2025. After that, only alternative private providers such as DAO will continue to offer mail services.

Knuspr disputes with Rewe over holiday deliveries

German online supermarket Knuspr and Rewe became embroiled in a legal dispute on International Women's Day in Berlin after Rewe secured a court order halting Knuspr's holiday deliveries. Knuspr contended that the ban shouldn't apply since their logistics center was located in Brandenburg's Schönefeld, where the holiday wasn't observed. Calling it a "David versus Goliath moment," Knuspr criticized the court decision and pointed to excessive market concentration in German food retail. The company ultimately bypassed the restriction by employing external logistics providers—a move Rewe dismissed as a "PR stunt".

Foodpanda acquisition by Uber Eats fails

Uber's planned acquisition of Delivery Hero's subsidiary Foodpanda Taiwan for $950 million has failed. The Taiwanese competition authority TFTC vetoed the deal, as Uber Eats and Foodpanda would have reached a combined market share of over 90 percent. Uber accepted the decision without appeal and now has to pay a contract termination fee of approximately $250 million to Delivery Hero. The failed deal is symptomatic of Delivery Hero's situation in Asia: The company wants to withdraw from several markets in the region as the Asian business is hampering growth. Sales talks for additional Foodpanda operations in Southeast Asia already failed last year due to differing price expectations.

The 3PL Success Formula: What the Best Do Better

In LogTech News 01 this year, we already reported on the growing importance of Third-Party Logistics Providers (3PLs). In the second issue, we then explored the difference 3PLs make in last-mile delivery – especially for eCommerce companies when it comes to rapid market entry or flexibly expanding their own capacities during peak periods. The more individualized and time-critical the delivery, the higher the requirements from marketplaces – whether in online retail or in the restaurant industry.

For 3PLs, this means: Those who want to grow today and position themselves as the preferred logistics partner for restaurant marketplaces or online retail must meet three key requirements – digital interfaces for order acceptance, rapid scalability of operational capacities, and excellent support. These factors are no longer optional but strategically necessary to keep pace with increasing volumes and requirements. Only those who excel in these areas win new clients, steadily expand volume with existing customers, and secure a long-term place in the rapidly growing market for last-mile logistics services.

MotionTools provides you with the technological foundation for all three areas and our team's expertise from a single source. If you want to learn more or want to utilize your fleet with orders from our customers and partners, then contact us HERE!
